# WickAtlas indicator research pack

Educational material only. Indicators describe past price or feed data; they do not predict outcomes. Test every rule with realistic spread, commission and slippage assumptions.

| Indicator | Job | Useful complements | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple Moving Average | Trend direction | ADX, ATR, horizontal structure | Slow to react |
| Exponential Moving Average | Trend direction | ADX, RSI, ATR | More sensitive to recent noise |
| MACD | Trend and momentum | ATR, support/resistance | Lag and redundant MA inputs |
| RSI | Momentum | EMA, Bollinger Bands, structure | “Overbought” is not an automatic short |
| Stochastic | Range momentum | Bollinger Bands, ADX, levels | Can stay extreme in trends |
| Bollinger Bands | Volatility and deviation | RSI, ADX, rejection candles | Touches are not signals |
| Average True Range | Volatility and risk | Structure, sizing calculator | No directional information |
| ADX / DMI | Trend strength | EMA, Donchian, ATR | Directional lines can whipsaw |
| Ichimoku Cloud | Multi-factor trend | ATR, RSI, swing structure | Visually dense and lagging |
| Fibonacci retracement | Proportional structure | Swings, price confirmation | Subjective anchor selection |
| Pivot points | Session reference levels | RSI, ATR, candles | Formula choice and session boundary vary |
| Donchian Channel | Breakout and trend | ADX, ATR, EMA | False breaks in ranges |
| Keltner Channel | Volatility and trend | Bollinger Bands, ADX | Parameter-sensitive |
| Commodity Channel Index | Momentum and cycle | SMA, ATR, pivots | Frequent extremes |
| Williams %R | Range momentum | ADX, Donchian, structure | Similar information to stochastic |
| Parabolic SAR | Trailing trend state | ADX, ATR, structure | Poor in sideways conditions |
| Supertrend | Volatility-adjusted trend | ADX, structure | Can flip repeatedly in ranges |
| VWAP / Anchored VWAP | Feed-specific average value | Session levels, ATR | Spot FX volume is decentralised |
| OBV / tick volume | Participation proxy | Structure, breakouts | Feed-specific tick volume |
| Standard deviation | Statistical dispersion | Mean, z-score | Assumes the chosen sample is relevant |

## Use one tool from each job

Avoid stacking several indicators that transform the same input in similar ways. A cleaner research stack is:

1. Context: market structure or a trend tool.
2. Regime: ADX or a volatility measure.
3. Trigger: price behaviour or one momentum measure.
4. Risk: ATR, structure and a position-size calculation.

## Standard page checklist

- Formula and source data
- What the output measures—and does not measure
- Default settings and sensitivity test
- Best and worst market regimes
- Lag, feed variation and repainting behaviour
- Two complementary tools
- One common misuse
- One reproducible strategy hypothesis
- Historical test, out-of-sample check and demo-forward plan
