Money Flow Index
Combines typical price and volume in an RSI-like oscillator.
Start with the input, not the story.
Positive versus negative price-volume flow on a bounded scale.
The precomputed 0–100 panel combines typical price with tick-volume flow. The 20 and 80 levels work as MFI references, but this retail spot-FX feed does not cover exchange-wide volume.
Check whether your platform uses tick or real volume. Run the same rule on more than one feed before trusting it.How traders commonly use Money Flow Index
MFI can be researched as a secondary participation feature at an independently defined price level when feed limitations are explicit.
Combine typical price and the available volume series into a bounded pressure measure.
Keep this job separate from entry timing, stop placement and position size.
A useful counterexample
On retail spot FX, different tick-volume feeds can produce different readings and none represents complete global traded volume.
Structure for location, MFI for feed pressure, ATR for risk
Each part has a different job. If two tools answer the same question, remove one and compare the result.
Provide price references known before the current candle.
Describes price-volume pressure on the named feed.
Normalises response and invalidation distance.
Follow the same order every time
- Record the feed and whether MFI uses tick or real volume.
- Plot the structural level before viewing the current response.
- Choose threshold state or divergence as one completed-bar observation.
- Measure the price response and invalidation in ATR units.
- Repeat the price-only rule and, where possible, compare the MFI reading across feeds.
The indicator is one part of the method
These strategy pages show the market conditions, entry, stop and exit around the indicator.
Support and resistance rejection
A framework for testing reactions at levels that genuinely predate the trade.
- ENTRY
- Enter at the next H1 open after the first qualifying rejection close back above the prior-day low or below the prior-day high.
- STOP
- Place stop 0.20 × ATR beyond the rejection candle extreme. Risk 0.50% of equity and round down to 0.01 lot.
- EXIT
- Take profit at 2R. Exit after 12 completed H1 bars if neither stop nor target trades.
Range mean reversion
Tests whether qualified boundary excursions revert toward a range midpoint.
- ENTRY
- Enter at the next H1 open after the first qualifying close back inside the frozen range.
- STOP
- Place the stop 0.20 × ATR(14) beyond the excursion extreme and size to 0.50% equity risk, rounded down to 0.01 lot.
- EXIT
- Exit at the frozen range midpoint. If neither stop nor midpoint trades, exit after eight completed H1 bars.
Donchian breakout
A rules-first breakout framework based on new lookback extremes.
- ENTRY
- Enter at the next H4 open after a completed close above the prior 20-bar upper channel for a long or below the lower channel for a short.
- STOP
- Initial stop is 2.0 × ATR(20) from the actual fill. Size to risk 0.50% of equity, rounded down to 0.01 lot; never add to or widen the position.
- EXIT
- Exit at the next H4 open after a completed close through the opposite 10-bar channel. The initial 2 ATR stop remains active until that exit.

Plain-language formula
The same indicator can look slightly different across platforms because the price input, smoothing and rounding may change. Note your settings before comparing two charts.
Where it may help
Feed-specific research where a meaningful volume series exists.
Where it struggles
Decentralised spot FX feeds with incomplete tick-volume information.
What to pair it with
Pair it with something that answers a different question, such as volatility or market direction. Try the indicator on its own before adding more tools.
The shortcut to avoid
Assuming exchange-grade volume coverage in retail spot FX.
Try this on a chart
Compare the same rule on several feeds before relying on it.
